Heard a concerning “clunk” followed by the sound of clothes NOT spinning this morning, followed by the stench of hot rubber.
The power of Google led me to a video of my exact dryer and showed how to take it apart correctly (like 4 screws). Upon inspection, I was relieved: I had merely snapped the belt and not blown the motor.
Google-fu’d the number on the belt and ordered a new one from amazon. What a relief. I thought the universe was once again tell me, “You will NEVER be able to buy a nice vehicle muhahaha!”

I’ve had my dryer apart twice in the last 3 years. The internet had made it pretty easy to work on and find parts. Replaced the heating element recently. Without the ability to get it for $70 online with complete replacement instructions, I probably would’ve been looking at over $300 in parts and service at which point a new dryer would’ve looked like a good deal. Now I plan to keep it forever.

Also, for stuff specific to one model that you can’t find easily somewhere like Amazon, these guys are amazing: http://www.repairclinic.com/ They have good videos explaining how to do repairs and stock all sorts of obscure parts. I usually buy from them even if I find the part a few $ cheaper elsewhere, just to help keep funding the repair videos they make freely available.

You're lucky. Every time I have an appliance die, it's been the circuit board - which costs almost as much as a new appliance to fix.

I just did this with mine. It suddenly was making a grinding noise. Turns out a zipper and a snap had gotten lodged around the drum and one of the guides. It was crazy easy to get the entire thing dismantled. We gave it a good cleaning while inside as well.
Also we had absolutely no idea there was a light inside. It had been burned out the entire time we’ve owned the drier. It came with the house.

9 times out of ten if the system is driven by a belt you can get a new one at an auto parts store. doesnt matter if its a car or not
